The Department of Economics in erstwhile Raiganj College (University College) was a premier department in the faculty of Arts. Since its inception in 1948 the major activities of the Department was to impart the qualitative education to the students of a backward area admitted to undergraduate levels and being involved in major socio economic program of this region. The department of Economics has offered qualitative education to all students and to achieve excellence in teaching and research and prepare the students to address the local and global issues and to deal with the socio economic problems of this region. After upgrading the erstwhile Raiganj College (University College) to the Raiganj University in 2015 the department has been offering Under Graduate Honours, Masters in Economics, M. Phil and Ph.D in Economics. The department has also emphasised to make our students to become good economist, policy makers and financial advisors for the academic as well as the corporate world. Every year we are getting lot of response in Masters and Ph.D from National and International level.
