The Department of Sanskrit started its journey with Undergraduate (Hons. & Program) Course and Master of Arts program in 2015. The Department offers four optional specializations in the groups of Grammar, Veda, Darsana and Kavya in the Post Graduate level. Interdisciplinary studies remain the prime focus of the Research work along with the traditional genre. The Department recurrently organizes Seminar, Workshop and Lecture Programs. Since inception the Department has remained engaged in popularizing the Study of Sanskrit language and literature in the region. Simple Sanskrit speaking courses are regularly organized within and outside university campus to enable the learners speak in simple Sanskrit. The Department also organizes Sanskrit Literacy Program in the rural areas. The thrust area covers Grammar, Vedic, Poetics, Aesthetic, Cultural, Philosophical, Scientific and interdisciplinary studies.

Mission of the Department:


The Department of Sanskrit aims to be one of the best university Departments of Sanskrit in India. It will be the endeavor of the Department to provide proper grounding to students in areas like literature, linguistics, philosophy, poetics Sanskrit shastras etc. Over the next few years, the Department plans to start many new initiatives, activities and programs for the benefit of the students and development of the Department. The Department of Sanskrit intends to classify the objectives into 3 parts viz. Academic objectives, Infrastructure Development Objectives & Other Objectives.

 

 Academic Objectives

  ●  To frame a curriculum that is in conformity with other Universities in India & abroad.

  ●  Updating and revising the curriculum at regular intervals.

  ●  To introduce diploma & certificate courses on Sanskrit Grammar & Vedic Chanting.

  ●  The Department aims to start M.Phil course in Sanskrit.

  ●  The Department proposes to implement a syllabus incorporating linkages with national & international languages related to Sanskrit.

  ●  The Department intends to impart teaching in Sanskrit medium to facilitate easy understanding among students from other states and abroad.

  ●  Imparting education in Sanskrit medium will be a unique specialty of the Department of Sanskrit.

  ●  To organize conferences / seminars / workshops on various topics of academic interest.


Research Objectives

  ●  Improving the quality and standard of research undertaken in the Department.

  ●  Picking up various research themes ranging from Linguistics, Sanskrit Poetics, Philosophy, Dramatics and Sanskrit Shastras etc.

  ●  To author reference books, articles

  ●  To take up major and minor research projects in Sanskrit.

  ●  To focus on regional contribution of Sanskrit in research projects.

  ●  To provide softwares related to language to students & faculty.

 

Infrastructure related objectives

  ●  Construction work for a new building for Sanskrit Department with various facilities is in progress.

  ●  The Department intends to set up a Departmental library and well equipped language lab (with audio visual aids, computer, DVD’S, CD’S) in the new building.

  ●  To make optimum use of computers in teaching & research process.

  ●  To provide internet Facilities to students and faculty of the Department to keep them abreast of latest developments in research in Sanskrit language & literature.


Other Objectives

  ●  To establish stronger community linkage through process of interaction with the society at large.

  ●  To develop stronger alumni association to cultivate the source of funding to the Department.

  ●  Increasing exposure to students through student exchange program with other universities.

  ●  Counseling students for NET / SET / UPSC / WBCSC/WBSSC etc. Exams.

●  The Department of Sanskrit is perusing its research activities in the core sections of the subject as well as with interdisciplinary approach both by the students and by the faculty members.

●  The Department has undertaken an initiative to publish the interdisciplinary research journal by the scholars working for the Ph.D. degree with the Department of eminent scholars of the various fields.

●  The Department has also published a Departmental wall magazine named Pratibha continuously. At present more than 20 scholars are working in different areas of research in Sanskrit and are working to work out the relevance of our age old heritage in the present era.

●  Total 03 scholars have been awarded the Degree of Ph.D. and 07 students have been awarded the degree of M.Phil till 31.12.2020.

●  The Department organized nineteen (19) invited lecture programs by prominent and eminent scholars. The Department organized the 01(One) International Seminar and 02(Two) National Seminars till now.

●  The Department introduced the Non-Formal Sanskrit Education Program for spreading the Sanskrit Language and Literature as spoken system.

●  The faculty members convoyed the students of the Department to have a dialogue with Dr. P. Nanda Kumar, General Secretary, Sanskrit Bharati (International NGO) to get the orientation of their world wide activities.

●  The Faculty members of the Department have been publishing Research papers, attending and presenting papers in the seminars/ conferences/ workshops/ symposiums in Regional, National and International levels.

●  The faculty members published 06 books and they have been invited as resource person in many institutions and programs.

●  Dr. Swapan Mal awarded with M.A. in Education Degree from Netaji Subhash Open University and Ph.D. Degree from Visva Bharati in July, 2018
